Topic Development of Spelling
skills with Phonics rule by using Instructional package for Pratomsuksa

the 2007 academic year Abstract The purpose of this research
is to develop English spelling skills of student with Phonics rule. The
research has 4 main objectives are (1) to analyze efficiency and
effectiveness of English spelling skills improvement tools in both of
instructional package and spelling practices (2) to measure and evaluate
level of skills after studying with this instructional package (3) to
determine an effectiveness of teaching (4) to evaluate students satisfaction. This research selected 26
samples of students by using cluster-sampling methodology from Pratomsuksa 5 class 5/1 at Baanchoengtalay
(Tantiwit) School. Moreover, period of study
started during 2nd semester of 2007 that started from January to
February 2008 (2 months). In this study, there were 20 lesson plans and used
3 different types of teaching tools, which were a spelling practice (3 sets
with 48 parts), Pre-test and Post-test (40 questions) and
student satisfaction questionnaire. Furthermore, for evaluation and testing hypothesis
were used mean, average standard deviation and Paired t-test. In conclusion, the results of this study were analyzed in 4
dimensions, which aligned with objectives were: (1) Educationalist considered
that instructional package with Phonics rule was suitable for improving
English spelling skills because the average score was 4.07 of 5.00. (2)
Effectiveness result of Spelling practice was 80.06 / 84.95 which was higher
than standard (80 / 80). (3) There was a 0.05 level of significance; the mean
score of sample’s Post-test (35.08) was greater than their Pre-test score
(28.52). According to the result, it represented level of improvement
spelling skills of sample students after studied with exercises of Phonics
rule. (4) Sample students improved their spelling skills measured by
coefficient of variation (C.V.) was equal to 13.27% that meant in the
standard (15%). (5) From student satisfaction survey, all students highly
satisfied (4.60 of 5.00) with this teaching methodology |
